Jardin Express and Research
Every year more than 1 500 varieties are evaluated in our experimental garden in Bouvincourt.
One of the secrets of the success of Jardin Express is their substantial investment in research. In partnership with ANVAR Jardin Express has finalized a Research and Development program based on 4 pillars:
• Variety tests, behaviour of the new varieties in the open air.
We test the latest varieties of the (? obtenteurs) on a worldwide scale.
It is important to identify varieties that produce beautiful flowers and at the same time perform long enough:
- early and homogeneous flowering, even until the first spells of frost,
- resistance to diseases and showers,
- abundant flowering, vigorous plants.
We do not economize on quality. The majority of our varieties are hybrids (the seeds are very expensive actually and cannot be found in supermarkets).
Very often the varieties are laureates of selection contests such as Fleuroselect or All America Selections Winner.
If we have doubts upon a certain variety, we try it out ourselves in the conditions the private customer is confronted with !
Jardin Express today offers a vast range of varieties, great classics as well as novelties, which often cannot be found in garden centres.
• Improvement of the techniques for preparing plants for packaging and dispatch
When the Jardin Express catalogue presents a new variety, its resistance to carriage by post is tested. In order to improve the quality of the plants delivered to our customers it is always necessary to improve the following points:
- preservation and augmentation of the root system of the young plants,
- development of new types of more protective packaging ,
- preparation of the plants during the week preceding dispatch, by adapting them progressively to the conditions of cultivation they will meet with the amateur gardener.
• New types of containers to ensure the customer of full flowering
The Minimottes, Jardimottes et Prestimottes adjust much better than plants in small pots as they root much better; moreover they flower longer with the support of containers which are slightly adapted.
That's why we are continuously searching for / devising containers which are perfectly adapted to the young plants to ensure a longer lasting and more abundant flowering. Thanks to this research we can propose new types of flower boxes such as Balconella, Grande Corbeille Fleurie (24 and 30 cm in diameter), Wanderella…
• Development of flower combinations
Numerous flower combinations are tested in our trial fields in order to provide our gardeners with new ideas. The best compositions are presented in our catalogues and on the Internet site.
